We are delighted to welcome Kexin Zhang as Assistant Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, who began September 1, 2026.
Kexin earned her PhD working with Aaron Frank at the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor, and most recently completed her postdoctoral training in the Grigorieff Lab at UMass Chan Medical School. Her research develops next-generation imaging and computational methods for cryo-EM, aiming to map biomolecules and their interactions directly inside cells. By combining numerical analysis, deep learning, and the growing wealth of structural data from experiments and AlphaFold predictions, her work pushes the resolution limits of biomolecular imaging — with the ultimate goal of illuminating the molecular basis of cellular function and accelerating the discovery of new therapeutics. Her broader research program spans AI-driven and differentiable algorithms for cryo-EM, high-resolution high-throughput visual proteomics, and computational structural biology and drug discovery.
