Lilian Kabeche is an Assistant Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University (USA). She completed her doctoral work with Duane Compton at Dartmouth College (New Hampshire, USA), where she studied kinetochore–microtubule attachments and chromosome segregation during mitosis. She subsequently moved to Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), where, under the supervision of Lee Zou, she investigated the role of the ATR kinase in suppressing chromosome instability. In 2019, Lilian established her independent research group at Yale University to study the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway. We spoke with Lilian over Zoom to learn more about her career path, her approach to mentoring and why a little sibling competition can be good for science.
