To provide exceptionally able undergraduates an opportunity to accelerate their professional education, the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry (MB&B) offers a combined B.S. and M.S. program usually requiring eight terms to complete. You must apply for the BS/MS program in the fall of your junior year.
B.S/M.S. Requirements and Application Steps
Step 1: Discuss Plans
You are required to have a conversation with your MB&B faculty advisor to ensure the program fits your academic and professional goals.
Step 2: Submit Initial Application
Complete the “MB&B BS/MS Application” (available here). Note that some information may be requested in multiple sections of this form in different contexts. Submit the completed form to the DUS and Undergraduate Registrar via email by late November (official 2026 date to be announced). This application assumes you plan to graduate in the Spring of your Senior year. If your circumstances are more unusual, please explain and make appropriate adjustments.
Step 3: DUS Review
The DUS will review your application and notify you of the decision within one week of the deadline.
Step 4: Submit
If your application is approved by the DUS, you will then need to also submit the “Application for the Simultaneous Award of the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees” dynamic form (available here) before the last day of classes of your 5th term. This form will then be forwarded to Dean Jill Cutler for consideration by the Yale College/Graduate School Committee.
Step 5: Notification of Admission
You will be notified of your admission into the BS/MS program in early Spring.
