Carl Zimmer’s Life’s Edge reviewed in The Guardian

Carl Zimmer’s latest book, Life’s Edge: The Search for What It Means to Be Alive, was recently reviewed by PD Smith in The Guardian. Zimmer’s book explores what it means to be alive in the most fundamental sense. New advances in biological research are bring us closer to the answer every day and push our concept of what it means to be alive. His book explores questions about life’s edge- things like brain organoids, cryptobiosis, and experiments testing the “assembly theory” of life.

In his review of Life’s Edge, Smith describes the book as “[a] subtle and profound meditation on the science of life, filled with memorable insights into the past and future of biology.”
