James Diao and Charlotte Herber are winners of this year’s Sigler Prize

May 31, 2018

The Sigler Prize is awarded to a graduating Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry major(s) who have demonstrated excellence in scholarship and research.  The prize is named in memory of Paul Sigler, a distinguished member of the faculty in the Department.

In addition to having distinguished themselves in the classroom, James and Charlotte are both accomplished researchers. James carried out bioinformatics research in the lab of Professor Mark Gerstein, developing tools to analyze large-scale sequencing data from extracellular small RNA molecules. Charlotte carried out research in the laboratory of Professor Steve Strittmatter, screening for receptor proteins that bind to proteins that form aggregates in the brain in Alzheimer’s and other degenerative diseases.
